If you live by the ocean, you’re in for a treat with the following beach date ideas! I live in Perth, Australia, and the sea feels like it’s everywhere (no joke), and the beach date ideas feel limitless.
Let me tell you a secret… I’m not really a beach person. The idea of being wet and sandy doesn’t fill me with delight. However, I really love these beach date ideas! Whether you LOVE the beach or not, we’ve got a date idea for you!
Okay, enough of my rants, let’s get into it!
Romantic Beach Date Ideas
Ooh, la la, let’s kick things off with some romantic beach date ideas. These apply whether you’re fresh as a daisy in your dating stage or married with kids (hopefully, you left the kids at home).
- Early Bird Sunrise
Okay, so this date is for people who enjoy getting up early. I like this beach date idea because it’s unexpected; I mean, who goes on a date at 6 am? But it’s such a good date idea because watching the sunrise together is romantic AF. Then you can head to your favorite cafe to indulge in a delicious breakfast. If you’re feeling fancy, you can even pack your own breakfast to have a picnic on the beach. I’m thinking mimosas and Danish pastries *yum*.
- Aye aye, Captain
Find a local business that offers boats for hire. There’s a place on the foreshore that rents out catamarans here in Perth. They are reasonable to rent and simple to sail. You feel like the Captain of your own boat for the day. There are also several electric boats you can hire and take along the river. Most offer pre-packed picnics and wine. It’s pretty romantic when it’s just the two of you out on the water. It’s one not to be missed if your area offers such services.
- Cheesy Sunset
Food and wine lovers will appreciate this beach date idea. Head to your local deli and buy some cheese, bread, and wine. And, whatever else takes your fancy. Pack it all in a cooler bag with a few plates, cheese knives, plastic glasses, and head to your favorite beach spot with your date. Find a nice, secluded part where you can relax and take in the view. Get out your goodies and make a little cheese platter. Pour your wine, sit back, and enjoy.
- Get Floaty
Does it get any better than floating around in the ocean on an inflatable? Swimming can also be a romantic beach date idea if floating isn’t your thing. There’s something about being in the water together that feels very intimate. If you really like each other, this is a perfect date to get a bit flirty. You can swim, find a pontoon to jump off, or just float around and chat (don’t forget your pool floats).
Romantic Beach Date Ideas Conversation Starters
For those of you who love a bit of deep and meaningful conversation. Some interesting conversation starters for these romantic beach date ideas might include “what are your biggest goals in life?”, “where do you see yourself in 5 years?”, “what are the top 5 things on your bucket list?”, “What is your favorite quality about yourself?”, “What is your relationship with your parents like?”, “What has been the biggest influence on your personality?”
Fun Beach Date Ideas
Let’s dive (no pun intended) into some fun beach date ideas:
- Wander and Walk
The best beach date ideas are often the simplest, such as taking a stroll on the beach. What’s not to like about walking along the coast, hand in hand as the ocean washes over your feet. Beautiful scenery all around, the fresh smell of the sea, wind in your hair, and sand between your toes. Any date that involves spending time in nature is relaxing and enjoyable. Take it all in while you chat away with each other.
- Ice Cream Nice Cream
If you’re looking for a tasty date idea, why not order ice cream at your local beach vendor? Whether you prefer vanilla or salted caramel, there’s a flavor for everyone. If ice cream doesn’t do it for you, try fish and chips instead. Eating fish and chips at the beach is a tale as old as time. I’m salivating just thinking about it. Once you’ve picked your food of choice, you can take a walk along the beach while you devour your ice cream or just sit and enjoy the view with your yummy fish and chips.
- Peddle Power
Get active, take in the views, and go for a bike ride along the coast. There are usually plenty of bike trails to choose from, and you can explore different parts of the coastline while enjoying the fresh air. Stop halfway to enjoy coffee, cake, and a friendly chat before heading back. Make sure to take some photos of the views and of each other.
- Sandcastle Wars
Challenge each other to a sandcastle building competition and see who can make the most epic fortress. This is much easier with supplies, so head to a Target or local beach shop and stock up on plastic buckets, spades, and anything that will give your sandcastle the edge! Make sure to take a photo of your finished castles so when the sea washes them away, you’ll always have your photos!
Adventurous Beach Date Ideas
Some beach date ideas can be a little out of the ordinary. Check out these ones below:
- Get Fishy
This is a super fun date for competitively inclined people. Find a spot with plenty of fishing opportunities and see who can catch the biggest fish. Who knows, you might even catch your dinner! If you’re hoping to catch dinner, don’t forget to plan ahead and bring a disposable BBQ and utensils for cooking the fish. Otherwise, you can throw the fish back in the water and just take home the bragging rights of who caught the biggest.
- Row, Row, Row your Boat
Kayaking is a great way to spend a date. It’s low-key and peaceful (well, until you flip upside down – just kidding(ish)). Either rent your own or try sharing one for extra fun! Make sure you stay safe in the water and don’t go too far from the shore. If the great big ocean makes you a bit nervous, try your kayak out on a lovely peaceful river first. I love this date idea because you can still stay engaged in conversation the whole time.
- Surf’s up
If you can surf, why not give your date a surfing lesson. Surfing is a sport that anyone can enjoy, regardless of the level of experience. Find out if your date is up for it first, though. This would not be a fun beach date idea for people who don’t like the water.
- Get Dunked
Frolicking in the waves makes you feel free and childlike. You can float over the top of the waves or dive headfirst under them. If you enjoy being tossed around by waves, look no further than this date! Be warned, this is not for the faint of heart, so check with your date to make sure they don’t mind being dunked.
